Fresno City College Campus Reopening Announcement (2026)

Breaking News: Fresno City College Campus Reopens After Major Water Line Crisis—But Not Everything Is Back to Normal Yet!

February 4, 2026 —

Special Announcement from the President:

We’re thrilled to share that Fresno City College (FCC) will officially reopen its doors on Thursday, February 5. This decision comes after a challenging period where severe damage to the college’s main water lines forced us to temporarily close. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our entire community for their patience and understanding during this unexpected disruption.

But here’s where it gets tricky: While the campus is reopening, additional testing on the water lines leading to Building A is still underway. As a precaution, we strongly advise all faculty, staff, and students to avoid drinking tap water in Building A until further notice. Rest assured, the restrooms in Building A are fully operational and safe to use. Please keep an eye out for posted signs throughout the building for specific guidance.

And this is the part most people miss: Behind the scenes, the Building Services Department has been nothing short of heroic. Their unwavering dedication and hard work have been instrumental in resolving this crisis. We also want to acknowledge the flexibility of our community—several events were postponed or relocated this week to honor prior commitments and maintain our schedule. Their adaptability has been a cornerstone of our ability to reopen so swiftly.

As we move forward, we encourage everyone to stay informed and follow all posted instructions. This situation has been a reminder of how resilient and interconnected our FCC family truly is.

Controversial Question for You: Should colleges invest more in infrastructure maintenance to prevent such disruptions, or is it an unavoidable risk in managing large campuses? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below—we’d love to hear your perspective!

Sincerely,

Denise Whisenhunt, J.D.
President
