NDC's Fifi Kwetey: No Double Roles for Party and Government Officials (2026)

A bold statement from Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sparked a conversation about the party's stance on dual roles. Kwetey's message is clear: the NDC will not tolerate individuals holding both party and government positions simultaneously.

In a recent press briefing, shared on X on January 29, 2026, Kwetey emphasized that government appointees eyeing party positions must first step down from their government roles. He questioned the motives of those currently serving in government while seeking party leadership, highlighting the abundance of capable individuals within the NDC.

"The NDC is a party of millions, with a vast pool of talented and competent individuals. It's not fair to assume that only a select few are capable of managing public affairs both within the party and at the national level," Kwetey stated.

He continued, "Imagine if something were to happen to any of us today; the NDC would still have an abundance of capable leaders to step up and excel in our roles. We cannot allow a situation where only a handful of individuals hold all the power.

"This is about fairness and reducing any potential conflicts of interest. If you wish to dedicate yourself to the party, you must leave your government position. Only then can we truly know your commitment.

The General Secretary further emphasized that party members should focus solely on their responsibilities within the NDC, rather than spreading themselves thin across multiple offices.

"Once approved, it will no longer be permitted to hold both a parliamentary and government position simultaneously. If you want to work for the party, resign from your current role, dedicate yourself fully, and contribute to the party's success. Working for the NDC is a noble and important task," he concluded.

This stance has sparked debate within the party, with some questioning the practicality of such a rule. What are your thoughts? Do you agree with Kwetey's stance on dual roles, or do you believe there could be a more flexible approach? Share your opinions in the comments below and let's discuss!
